Elections to the Management Committee
Each year, some time during the second and/or third school term members are asked to elect half of the Management Committee to serve for a 2 year term of office. At the first meeting of the new school year the Management Committee then elect the committee members to serve in the executive rôles.
Every member of the association is eligible to stand for election to the management committee and if you feel that you are able to contribute and commit to attending committee meetings and undertaking tasks and projects the we encourage you to put yourself forward for election. Current committee members are eligible to stand for re-election.
The election begins with a call for candidates. This goes to all parents of children at the European School Luxembourg 1 via the school messaging system (SMS) and we endeavour to send it to all of our members by email the same week. The call includes the number of positions on the management committee that are to be filled (this can be a minimum of either 10 or 11).
At the conclusion of the call for candidates period the ballot papers with the candidates’ motivations are sent by post to all members. Votes must be returned to the office by no later than 17:00 (5.00 pm) on the closing date of the election
The tellers appointed at the AGM then count the votes received for each candidate. This can take some time as it may be necessary to count the votes cast more than once to ensure accuracy. When the result is known the candidates are informed and given the opportunity to challenge the result. If there are no challenges then the result is announced via SMS and our own email newsletter.
