• Primary class representatives meeting on 15/11/2021
    • Improving school communication: APEEEL1 insisted to the school that their messages must be short and clear, PDF attachment not always easy to open on a cell phone, by hence the main message to pass to parents must be in the email body.
    • The extension of buildings issue has been reminded to the school direction: a need for a bigger sport hall, adapted swimming-pool, canteen extension, including a place for kids to wait the school begin in case of bad weather
    • The vending machines are exclusively for the teachers and secondary students (they are either with badges or in teachers rooms). The only machines not in teachers’ rooms are: 1 one for sandwiches and fruit in the cafeteria, one with Luxlait milk in the hall behind the cafeteria and 2 machines with drinks and chocolate in and behind the cafeteria. Both these last two machines have chocolate products together with healthy snacks (galettes de riz, dry fruits, nuts, pate de fruits, smoothies) so that students/teachers have the choice.
    • Canteen decisions: they are taken in the canteen committee, where teachers are members as well as secondary students representatives, parents’ representatives and school administration personnel.

  • Secondary class representatives meeting on 07/12/2021
    • The role of the class representative: channel of communication among APEEEL1, class parents and the school. The class reps channel communications though a class network (email list, whatsapp group, slack work space…)
    • Teaching quality: APEEEL1 raised the question on how to promote teaching quality. There are several school projects but no real incentives to teachers. There is a difference between locally recruited teachers and seconded teachers. Locally recruited teachers are evaluated by the school and seconded teachers are inspected by the national inspectors, but the school has little influence over seconded teachers.
    • BYOD (Bring Your Own Device school project) APEEEL1 is not satisfied on how the school handles this project. Recently the JTC (Joint Teaching Committee) recommended to postpone Geogebra and use simple scientific calculators without graphing capability for the next 2 BAC years. This will require modifications in how exam texts are written. The school have promised to put a project in place for digital programs, so until this is in place the equipment specifications are not clear yet.
    • Inforgyx: Unfortunate the pilot collaboration with Inforgix did not work and the link has been removed from APEEEL1 website and our schools.
    • Dirty toilets: APEEEL1 raised this recurrent issue to the school management who is looking for solutions.
    • Students’ mobile phones to be discussed with the school again. The policy is clear but details and implementation are not. Why does the school not implement a policy? like in other school systems around the world, where mobiles are locked in a box during lessons.

Finally a couple of recent exchanges:

  • with Mr Alberici, Secondary director: APEEEL1 requested him to clarify our students’ rights and duties in a positive and committed way. The current list in the memorandum takes just the students’ duties and its punishments.
  • with Luxemburgish delegates and Mr Wedel who confirmed that our school is not authorised to provide COVID test certified results.
